The living room features a sofa from Engell; a suspended Parentesi lamp by Achille Castiglioni and Pio Manzù for Flos (Olsen’s “all-time favorite”); and a wood-burning stove made by Aduro. The firewood nook set in the left wall is Jensen’s own design. Olsen is responsible for the low planters around the perimeter, which she had fabricated from poured concrete framed in welded iron, with lacquered MDF panels for doors. “Some people laughed because we’d never had plants in our apartment,” she says. “So when we wanted a hedge, our friends were, like, Ok. Really? Good luck with that.” Photo by Anders Hviid.
For the seating area, the couple selected a Charles sofa by Antonio Citterio for B&B Italia in addition to CH07 Shell chairs by Hans Wegner, a PK61 coffee table by Poul Kjærholm, and a Nesta rug from Design Within Reach. The dining table, an original design by Burnette, is surrounded by stools that belonged to a previous owner. Photo by Dean Kaufman.
“Creating efficient space is valuable, but for us, rooms that offer visual and spatial continuity with nature are also important,” architect Julie Dowling explains. “When the sliding doors are open, the living room and kitchen double in size.” Photo by Matthew Millman.
