Winter is coming—and that means more coats, scarves, and hats. Don’t clog up your closet or toss items on your sofa. Try one of these innovative solutions for coat and accessory storage, including low profile wall-mounted options and sculptural statement pieces.

Sculptural coat stand with shelf

From Plywood Office, the Rack of Coats takes a necessary household accessory—a coat rack—and reimagines it as sculpture. The Rack of Coats is defined by its graceful curves, which are created from steam-bent solid wood that is sourced domestically from a small Wisconsin mill. Beneath the curved wood coat hooks, the Rack of Coats includes a convenient table, providing storage space for keys, coins, mobile phones, or even a purse or work bag.

Streamlined coat rack with powder-coated hooks

The Unit Coat Rack from Strand Design is designed to bring a sturdy storage solution for all of your interior spaces, from entryways and mudrooms to bedrooms and playrooms. With a thin profile, the Unit Rack can even fit inside a closet or on the back of a door. The streamlined rack is made from locally sourced white oak wood and three powder-coated steel wire hooks that are molded to accommodate a variety of items, including jackets, scarves, purses, or backpacks.

Leather and metal hanging peg and loop

With its Stropp Coat Hook, by Lassen completely redefines traditional hanging pegs and hooks. Each Stopp is comprised of a luxurious leather loop and metallic peg. Items can be hung through the loop or over the peg. Coats and other clothing can be placed on a hanger and hung from the loop as well.

Beech and resin coat rack inspired by sparrows

The Pierrot Coat Stand from Alessi is an innovative storage furnishing that is at once light and sturdy. The Coat Stand features a lightweight, linear composition that is supported by three legs that, while thin, provide a stable, balanced base. Designed by Pauline Deltour, the coat stand is made from beech wood with grey resin joints. Pierrot means “sparrow” in French, which is carried through in Deltour’s design—the base and pegs resemble a bird’s foot.

Powder-coated steel coat rack with platforms

Designed with apartment-living and small spaces in mind, the Norm Coat Hanger is a sleek, powder-coated steel coat stand with a small footprint. The top platform can be used to hold a hat, keys, and sunglasses, while the lower platform can prop up a pair of shoes or a bag. Near the top of the stand, there is a hook for hanging jackets, which also extends back to the wall, giving an extra place for draping a scarf or hanging a coat from a hanger.

Steam-bent ash wall-mounted hook

The Ash Wood Wall Hook from WRONG FOR HAY is a modern accessory that recalls the steam bending techniques made famous by Michael Thonet in the nineteenth century. The simple hook is comprised of a steamed strip of solid ash wood and integrated wall fixings. The hook has two curved upward ends that can be used for coats, hats, and scarves, or for other storage throughout the home.
