In our May Issue, we tell the story of the Twist Farmhouse renovation in Pennsylvania. Designer Tom Givone sourced a few of his favorite items from The Dwell Store to appear in the space. Here are some of our favorite designs in the house. Be sure to view the full collection here.

Elegant wood serving board with beveled edges

The Ray Long Board is characterized by its use of geometric shapes and angles. Designed to be used to present bread, cheeses, charcuterie, and other small appetizers, the board features beveled edges that make it easy to pick the board up off of the table. The top of the board is etched with a series of lines, which create a graphic visual statement of angles and intricate shapes. In addition to being admired, these shapes can also be used as borders to separate different types of cheese or meat, giving them a distinctive function as well.

Midcentury wood ducks made from teak

The Duck + Duckling Series is a playful celebration inspired by true events. In 1959, a Danish police officer stopped traffic in order to let a young family of ducks across the road. Inspired by the newspaper photographs, Hans Bølling designed the duck and duckling figures to playfully commemorate the event. Now icons of Danish design, the figurines are handcrafted from teak and feature smooth, rounded forms and exaggerated beaks.

Elegant wall light with classic looks

The Type 75 Wall Lamp is an elegant wall light that is designed to fit seamlessly into a modern home. The lamp is defined by its classic Anglepoise looks—it features clean lines and a simple shade. The Type 75 Wall light can be used on its own or paired with another Type 75 Wall light to frame a bathroom mirror, headboard, or desk.

Colorful and geometric area rug

Designed by Alyson Fox in collaboration with Hawkins New York, the Shapes Dhurrie Rug is based off of Alyson’s artwork, which is largely inspired by the work of Josef Albers and the paintings of Piet Mondrian. Bold lines and geometric shapes—large rectangles embracing hexagons, pentagons, and triangles— define the piece.

Classic Kartell armchair in signature plastic

Originally designed by Joe Colombo in 1965, the 4801 Armchair was the only piece made entirely of wood that Kartell ever produced. A symbol of 1960s design, the original armchair had a limited production, and is a much sought-after historical piece. Reissued in 2011 in Kartell’s signature plastic, this 4801 Armchair captures the elegant, sinuous lines of the original design. Available in three distinctive colors—white, black, and transparent—the 4801 Armchair is an undeniable statement-maker that is at once sculpture and functional furniture.

Beehive sculpted ceramic mug

Recalling the look of the classic Bauer Pottery design from the 1930s, the Beehive Coffee Mug from the Bauer Pottery Company of Los Angeles features a pronounced handle and a tall profile that is reminiscent—as the name aptly indicates—of a beehive. With undulating ridges that climb the mug just like a hive does in nature, the mug has a sculptural and organic sensibility.

Wood ladder with shelving

The Nomad Shelf System from Skagerak is part of an innovative storage system that has a thin, space-saving profile. Designed to resemble a ladder, the Nomad rests on the wall, and can be set in a variety of interiors, or even outside. The ladder comes with four hooks, which make it easy to hang small personal accessories like keys or totes. The rungs of the ladder can be draped with towels when used in a bathroom, or can be used to display scarves or other textiles in a bedroom or living space. The Nomad Ladder can be used with the Nomad Shelves to create more surface area for storing other items.

classic three-seater sofa with wool upholstery

Elegant and timeless, the Kiki collection of furniture was created by legendary Finnish designer Ilmari Tapiovaara in 1960. For the Kiki Sofa, Tapiovaara envisioned a clean, minimal sofa that could be integrated into any existing environment. Plush yet refined, the Kiki Sofa is crafted with lacquered or chrome steel tubing and features an upholstered soft polyurethane foam cushion in inviting wool or elegant leather.
